Virginia Tech is participating in the Charleston Classic for the third time this fall, albeit the first time with its new format where instead of a tournament-format, all matchups will be predetermined.
According to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, Virginia Tech will be adding a Big 12 and Big 10 opponent to its schedule via the Charleston Classic.

Virginia Tech will face Oklahoma State and Northwestern during the 2026 Charleston Classic. The three other teams taking part in the event that the Hokies won't face are Minnesota, Utah, and Dayton.
VT has a great history against Oklahoma State with a 5-0 all-time record including a 70-65 victory over the Cowboys on December 11th, 2022 most recently. All five matchups have taken place within the past 20 years.
VT and Northwestern have only faced off once before with the Hokies losing that matchup 81-79 in overtime at Cassell Coliseum on December 1st, 2015.
Both of these games are solid matchups to add to a very good non-conference schedule, with Oklahoma State playing in the NIT each of the past two years and trending in the right direction under Steve Lutz while Northwestern has had two NCAA Tournament and three above .500 seasons in the past four years under Chris Collins.
With these two games added, VT will face six teams from power conferences during non-conference play, the most by far that the Hokies have faced in years.
