Since decommitting from Ohio State, four-star TE Benji Gosnell has become one of the top available 2022 recruits in the Mid-Atlantic. However, there are a pair of schools who have emerged as the favorites for him at this point in his recruitment.

Gosnell told us that Virginia Tech and North Carolina are currently standing out for him in his recruitment. He had this to say about why the Hokies are currently standing out for him.

"How they incorporate tight ends in their offense and the opportunity to make an impact early," Gosnell said.

He had this to say about why North Carolina is currently standing out for him.

"Chapel Hill is a great place and it has the whole package with academics and athletics," Gosnell said.

Gosnell did say that Virginia Tech is currently recruiting him the hardest with VT's coaching being in contact with him "pretty much everyday." This includes not only his potential position coach James Shibest but also lead offensive recruiter Adam Lechtenberg and head coach Justin Fuente.

Through this, Gosnell has built some strong relationships with Tech's coaching staff starting with Justin Fuente as he described to us.

"It’s really good. We talk on the phone on a weekly basis and can talk about anything. He’s a genuine guy and a great coach," Gosnell said.

Gosnell had this to say about his relationship with TEs coach James Shibest.

"We are good friends. We talk about football and family and get along well,"

He has also built a strong relationship with Adam Lechtenberg as he shared with us.

"We have a good relationship. He’s a good person and easy to talk to," Gosnell said.

Looking ahead, Benji Gosnell told us that he will be taking a visit to Virginia Tech next week for their game against Notre Dame. This game should be a fantastic opportunity for the Hokies to immerse Gosnell in the football culture of Blacksburg while also being able to make a big push to try to land his commitment whether next weekend or soon after.

This comes as Gosnell is looking at making his decision in the near future which "could be soon as later this month or November." When he does make his decision, Gosnell knows what the key factors will be for him.

"The medical/training facilities and staff, the coaches and what kind of people they are, the gameday atmosphere, and the utilization of my position," Gosnell said.

The recruiting battle is on between Virginia Tech and North Carolina for the talented Benji Gosnell as the Hokies look to beat the Tar Heels on the recruiting trail for him as they did on the field this season.
