After landing a commitment from 2026 top 100 wrestler Alex Rozas on Sunday, the Hokies made a bigger splash on the recruiting trail on Monday.
2026 top 40 overall wrestler Jonathan Rocha out of California has flipped his commitment from Purdue to Virginia Tech. He is ranked 38th overall in the 2026 class by FloWrestling, the highest of Tech’s three current 2026 commits (Revin Dickman-51st, Alex Rozas-95th).
Flipping a top 40 overall recruit is always an impressive get, with the Hokies’ Wrestling program once again delivering a big recruiting victory. This flip comes after the Hokies had hosted him on a visit within the past couple weeks.
Rocha projects at either 184 or 197 at the collegiate level, though I would lean towards 197 being the landing spot as of now. There is definitely the potential for Rocha to be developed into the heir to Sonny Sasso’s 197-pound starting spot after Sasso starts the next three seasons for the Hokies.
