He had this to say about his reaction in the immediate aftermath of receiving a Virginia Tech offer.
"Amazed, you wouldn’t think years ago that today you’d receive an offer from the Virginia Tech," Bentley said.
The Hokies joined an offer list that also includes Texas A&M, Colorado, South Florida, James Madison, and Utah State according to Bentley directly and his Twitter. He's also been receiving interest from Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Troy, Georgia Southern, and "a lot more" with plans to visit Georgia Southern on June 17th.
Bentley received the offer during a phone conversation with WRs coach/offensive recruiting coordinator Fontel Mines and RBs coach Elijah Brooks. This offer didn't come out of nowhere though as the Hokies have been showing interest in Bentley for several months now as he told us.
"During my junior season, I had a game where I had 311 yards. That’s when we really started talking," Bentley said.
That game came during an impressive junior season where in only 10 games, Bentley ran for 1,426 yards and 15 touchdowns while averaging 7 yards per carry and posting 5 games of 100+ rushing yards.
So what are the strengths and weaknesses of Bentley's game?
"My strengths are jump cuts and bringing me down, I’m a run through you guy, plus my vision, I can make plays out of nothing. My weakness is my speed," Bentley said.
So how does this offer impact his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in it?
"If I do get ranked, I feel like the offer from VT would help out a lot as far as publicity," Bentley said.
