Virginia Tech has extended a few JUCO offers recently including one to Lackawanna CC offensive tackle Elijah Philippe.
Philippe had this to say about his reaction to receiving an offer from Virginia Tech.
"It’s overwhelming and unreal. It still doesn’t feel real to be honest," Philippe said.
Tech's interest in Philippe kicked off from some spring in-person evaluations that the Hokies' coaches did at Lackawanna as Philippe told us.
"It all happened pretty quickly. They came to one of our practices and since then, the coaching staff followed me and has been texting me," Philippe said.
From there, offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen extended the offer to Philippe over a phone conversation that went well as a whole as he told us.
"The conversation was great! I felt really comfortable talking to coach Bowen. and he was just giving me the rundown about Virginia Tech," Philippe said.
It was a big day for Philippe as a whole as Tech wasn't the only Power 5 program to extend an offer as South Carolina also offered him. Philippe did tell us that he hopes to visit his two current offers of Virginia Tech and South Carolina. Of course, that offer list may grow even more before he visits either school with Philippe adding that Tennessee, Syracuse, Old Dominion, and Jacksonville State have been showing interest in him.
All of that interest shouldn't come as a surprise given his size at 6'7'' and 300 pounds according to his Twitter which is ideal for an offensive tackle prospect. His redshirt year clearly has allowed him to develop his craft well while he's also worked hard in the classroom as he told us that he made the Dean's List, another good sign regarding his work ethic and habits of discipline.
So with that said, how does this offer impact his recruitment and where Virginia Tech stands in it?
"It has a huge impact on my recruitment! it gets the ball rolling for me," Philippe said.
Keep an eye on Elijah Philippe as the Hokies look to the JUCO ranks to add some older, early-impact talent to their 2023 class.
