Virginia Tech has sent out a few running back offers recently including one to three-star RB Deshun Murrell out of Centreville, Alabama.

Murrell told us that he received the offer via a phone call with RBs coach Adam Lechtenberg and had this to say about his reaction to receiving a VT offer.

"I was very excited because I’ve been interested in VT for a few years now," Murrell said.

Murrell told us that the Hokies' interest has really picked up over the past few days. Overall, VT's offer leaves the Hokies "pretty high on my list" for Murrell with the three-star RB having this to say about why.

"Schools with academic and athletic excellence really stand out to me especially when they play in a competitive conference like the ACC. VT’s fanbase is unreal plus I’m a huge foodie, so to even be considered to have the #1 food in the U.S is even better," Murrell said.

Deshun Murrell also added that the Hokies are among eight schools currently standing out in his recruitment. That group also includes Nebraska, Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, Maryland, Northwestern, Duke, and Appalachian State.

That shouldn't come as a surprise after the season Murrell had this past fall with over 2,000 rushing yards and at least 33 rushing touchdowns.

Murrell hasn't gotten to visit Virginia Tech previously, but he will get a chance to at least experience VT in some ways as the Hokies are working on setting up a virtual visit with him "sometime next week." That is the only virtual visit that he could "recall" being on his schedule at the moment.

For now, Virginia Tech is right in the hunt for Deshun Murrell who appears poised to be one of the Hokies' higher targets at running back.
