Virginia Tech Recruiting Three-Star SG Jaydon Young "Really Hard"

With Virginia Tech men's basketball's 2022-23 roster set at this point (outside of a last minute reclassification forward or transfer portal addition), the focus has shifted to recruiting the 2023 class for the Hokies.

That includes three-star SG Jaydon Young out of Greensboro who mentioned the Hokies when asked whether any schools are currently standing out for him.

"Virginia and Virginia Tech are both recruiting me really hard right now," Young said.

Christian Webster has been leading the charge for the Hokies reaching out to Young at least weekly if not more often with Young adding this on his relationship with the Hokies' longest-tenured current assistant.

"I love it, we talk often but it’s never about just basketball! He’s real genuine and you can tell he actually cares about me as a person, so that will forever stick with me!" Young said.

Tech is arguably his most prominent offer along with Texas A&M plus offers from ODU, UNC Greensboro, Appalachian State, Charlotte, and more. Young is also receiving loads of interest from schools who haven't offered him yet like UVA, Tennessee, Florida State, Ohio State, Illinois, Clemson, Pittsburgh, Georgia Tech, Loyola Chicago, East Carolina, and more.

All of this shouldn't come as a surprise as he had a strong junior season doing it all for Greensboro Day School as he shared with us.

"I improved all around, made shots, handled the ball, made plays, and defended some of the top players in the country so I had a great overall junior season. I averaged right around 15 points and 7 rebounds and I think 4 assists," Young said.

Looking ahead, Young told us that he does intend to visit Virginia Tech though he doesn't have a date set. Additionally, Young is looking to take visits to Tennessee, Florida State, and "maybe" Ohio State.

Jaydon Young's recruitment seems bound to develop with a growing offer list over the coming months, but Virginia Tech is in a good spot early on with the Greensboro standout.
