With winter workouts under way for Virginia Tech, the Hokies have reportedly had their first roster departure of 2022 as RB Tahj Gary has entered the transfer portal as reported by Rivals
2019 3-star RB Tahj Gary entered the transfer portal after playing in three games during his time with Virginia Tech @Hokie_Haven https://t.co/i9w9BOkrk3

Gary was never able to gain traction during his time in Blacksburg rushing for 24 yards on 4 carries over 3 seasons which all came during Virginia Tech's win over Rhode Island in 2019. With Malachi Thomas and Keshawn King leading the way along with other promising young guns like Chance Black and Kenji Christian, Gary's path to playing time seemed to be extremely difficult.
He will have three years of eligibility remaining at his next destination.
Virginia Tech's RB room has been considered fairly bloated in terms of what a good roster balance would be with transfers out of that room seeming to be inevitable. Gary's departure opens a valuable scholarship for the Hokie that helps give them the room they need not only for their 2022 class, but also for their transfer portal class that seems likely to grow later this offseason.
We will have more as this story develops.
