The Virginia Tech-Wisconsin home-and-home series has been delayed again and again over the years from it originally being scheduled in the late 2000s to it currently being scheduled to happen in 2031 and 2032. Today, another shift in the series happened, one that will not see it even happen in Blacksburg.
This morning, it was announced that the Hokies would take on the Badgers in the 2031 Duke's Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium, a relocation of the game from Blacksburg to Charlotte along with it being moved to Labor Day weekend.

This past season, Appalachian State and Charlotte faced off in the Duke's Mayo Classic, with the Mountaineers running away with the game, 34-11. Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia are among the other notable programs set to take part in future Duke's Mayo Classics.
This is the fourth time that the Hokies have played football in Charlotte in an event put on by the Charlotte Sports Foundation, which also organizes the Duke's Mayo Bowl and the Ally Tipoff among other events. The Hokies are 1-2 in their three appearances in the Duke's Mayo Bowl, winning the 2016 edition against Arkansas and losing the 2019 (Kentucky) and 2024 (Minnesota) editions
As of now, the 2032 game remains scheduled to be a home game for Wisconsin. The 2031 game will be the first time that Virginia Tech and Wisconsin have played each other in football. Since 2000, the Hokies have faced off against eight different B1G opponents, going 3-8 in 11 games.
