In addition to this being only their second appearance in the Preseason Top 25 ranking, it is the first time the Hokies have been in any Top 25 ranking since holding the No. 17 spot on Jan. 23rd, 2017.
Kenny Brooks’ squad will return all five starters from the 2020-21 season, where the Hokies returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2006.
Virginia Tech was one of the five ACC programs to make the preseason rankings with defending ACC champion N.C. State led the way at the No. 5 spot. Other teams included No. 6 Louisville, No. 16 Florida State and No. 17 Georgia Tech.
On Wednesday, the Hokies landed in the No. 4 spot of the Preseason ACC media rankings; their highest projection during the Hokies' tenure in the ACC.
