Tech Sideline's Andy Bitter reported earlier Sunday that Virginia Tech redshirt freshman WR Cam Sparks is no longer with the football program.

Per Bitter, Sparks was recently charged with a DWI on April 12th and has a court hearing scheduled for June 18th. Sparks is being represented by Jimmy Turk who has represented Virginia Tech football players dealing with legal issues for a long time including his representation of LB Isi Etute most notably when Etute was found not guilty of murder.

Virginia Tech shared the following statement with Bitter as well.

"Cam Sparks is no longer with the football program. Roster attrition is common following a head coaching change, and institutions must now also be mindful of recently mandated roster limits established through the House settlement. Our priority is to be direct and transparent with impacted student-athletes as early as possible so they have the best opportunity to evaluate their next steps academically and athletically. We appreciate Cam’s time at Virginia Tech and will support him through that transition.”

Sparks redshirted last season after being a summer arrival prior his mid-January commitment to the Hokies. The four-star recruit was an intriguing prospect when he arrived, but appeared to be pretty far down the depth chart prior to his departure. He will have four years of eligibility remaining though with the transfer portal being closed, it'll be fascinating to see what options he even has, with JUCO seeming like a strong possibility.
