Virginia Tech's rough 2025 season may have ended with a brutal 27-7 loss to rival No. 18 Virginia, but there were still a couple of positives from this game.
One of those was from true freshman WR Shamarius Peterkin, who started in place of injured WR Ayden Greene and delivered the highlight of his true freshman to preserve Virginia Tech's scoring streak.
Peterkin had his first career touchdown and second career catch during the fourth quarter, a 57-yard score that kept Tech's consecutive scoring streak alive. After the game, Peterkin had this to say about his first career touchdown.
"I really just saw that he was playing outside leverage so I went to go tell (Kyron Drones) what route I felt like was there. And then he said, 'go run it.' And then he gave me the opportunity to go score," Peterkin said.
For Peterkin, there was plenty of satisfaction for getting his first career collegiate touchdown especially after he recognized what UVA was doing defensively and called his shot to exploit it for his touchdown.
"It's very satisfying. You can't ask for nothing more. Just go make a play. That's all I really can ask for," Peterkin said.
