With fall camp kicking off today, Virginia Tech released their updated football roster which included one notable position change.
The only noticeable change in the #Hokies football roster is Aycen Stevens moving from linebacker to defensive line. He spent the spring working at Mike and Will linebacker.

Redshirt freshman Aycen Stevens has moved from linebacker to the defensive line with him likely landing at defensive end with his current size at 6’4’’ and 234 pounds. Stevens possibly could have the frame to grow into being a defensive tackle though DE seems to be the first spot for him to work at.
This is an interesting move by the Hokies and does add some younger depth to a group that features six guys who all run out of eligibility after either 2024 or 2025. Stevens was the sole true Mike LB in the first two full recruiting classes for Virginia Tech though, leaving a long-term hole on the depth chart.
Stevens’ move could be a sign that the Hokies are more confident in Jaden Keller’s development as a Mike LB along with what they’ve seen from Caleb Woodson working at Mike and Will LB this offseason.
Otherwise, there will be a major void at Mike LB after Sam Brumfield’s sole season in Blacksburg, with the Hokies needing to find another Mike LB in the transfer portal after the 2024 season to help bridge the gap to 2025 commits Brett Clatterbaugh and Noah Chambers for 2026 or 2027.
The only other notable change or change of sorts is that Gunner Givens is listed on the defensive line despite moving to the offensive line this spring. It’s unclear if that is a clerical error or if Givens has possibly moved back to the defensive line.
