With Justin Fuente officially out, rumors about who the next coach at Virginia Tech will be are starting to pick up with multiple regional and national media members mentioning Wake Forest head coach Dave Clawson as a top target for the Hokies including ESPN's Adam Rittenberg and major Charlotte sports talk radio host (and VT alum) Kyle Bailey.
On Packer & Durham, Adam Rittenberg of ESPN just mentioned Dave Clawson as a possible candidate if Virginia Tech looks to poach the ACC. Wes Durham said he's heard the rumors about VT's interest in Clawson.

Your dream might actually come true, @joshwgoodson.
I’m told for the 2nd time this week that Dave Clawson is a name to watch for the VT job. Guess we’re about to find out how serious that is.

These are far from the only places where Clawson has been mentioned as a potential top candidate for the Virginia Tech job. I have personally included Clawson near the top of my own list of potential candidates for the Virginia Tech job if I was athletic director Whit Babcock.
Clawson has usurped what Jim Grobe has done at Wake Forest in terms of consistency with a 49-46 record that includes 5 winning records with 7+ wins over the past 6 seasons and a team this year that is the favorite to win the ACC at one of the bottom 3 jobs in the conference. For reference, Wake Forest had not had at least 5 winning records in 6 seasons since having 8 in 9 seasons from 1944 to 1952.
There's no doubt that there will be plenty of names rumored to be involved with the Virginia Tech job which is probably the third best opening out there after USC and LSU currently. However, one thing that is clear is that Whit Babcock is definitely someone who runs tight searches with leaks being few.
