The Virginia Tech Hokies cruised to victory last Thursday over the Miami Hurricanes 37-16 in what was a complete offensive and defensive performance that included 12 tackles for loss and 8 sacks for Bud Foster’s defense. The Hokies’ strong defensive performance earned a lot of respect within the ACC and led to some weekly honors being given out to a few members of that defense.

The Hokies swept the ACC’s weekly defensive players of the week honors with Woody Baron receiving the honors for the defensive line, Tremaine Edmunds for linebackers, and Terrell Edmunds for defensive backs. The three players were all big parts of what was a great defensive performance that brought the magic back to Thursday nights in Blacksburg.
Woody Baron was a lock after his tremendous performance in which he had 6 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 2 QB hurries in what was one of the best performances in recent memory from a Virginia Tech defensive lineman. Baron has emerged as one of the top defensive tackles in the conference and is poised to receive some major conference honors after the season should he continue on this pace.
Tremaine Edmunds had another strong game with 10 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 QB hurry as the sophomore linebacker continues to make plays. Edmunds clearly has the potential to go down as one of the best linebackers to ever play at Virginia Tech as he is having a very strong sophomore campaign and consistently making plays all over the field.
Terrell Edmunds wasn’t perfect against Miami but he had a strong game overall with 7 tackles and a spectacular interception that has earned him the ACC Defensive Back of the Week honors. Edmunds has adapted quite well to his new spot at rover and has been able to make an impact on both rush and pass defense for the Hokies.
Congrats to Woody Baron, Tremaine Edmunds, and Terrell Edmunds on receiving this recognition.
