Hokies Football: Virginia Tech is 19th in First College Football Playoff Rankings

The Virginia Tech Hokies made their College Football Playoff rankings debut tonight, coming in at #19. This is the first time in the history of this ranking that the Hokies have made an appearance after subpar seasons in the first two years of the CFP.

The ACC has 5 teams in the rankings, including two Top-10 teams with Louisville at #7 and Clemson at #2. If the playoffs were to be played now, Clemson would be facing off against #3 Michigan on December 31st.

This ranking for the Hokies is drastically different than what we have seen from the AP and Coaches Poll this week as both UNC and Florida State are now below the Hokies, instead of above them. UNC is ranked at 21st and FSU is at 22nd.

If Virginia Tech wants to sneak up on the playoffs, a lot must happen. First is winning out for the rest of the season. T0 start that campaign is the Duke game — at Durham, 3:30 PM on ESPNU.
