While Saunders declined to state any specifics for his decision to decommit, he did tell us that the Hokies are among the programs that Saunders is considering along with Kansas State and East Carolina. Saunders did add that he hasn't ruled out South Florida at this point largely due to the relationships that he's built there.

Virginia Tech intrigues Saunders a lot and has he told us, one of the main reasons why he's considering the Hokies is because of the opportunity it would be for him to compete at the highest level of college football.

"It's a great opportunity to play on the college world's biggest stages and in a great conference," Tyree Saunders said.

Virginia Tech also has momentum recruiting in the Jacksonville area after landing a commitment from three-star safety Keonta Jenkins who visited Virginia Tech with Saunders for the Blacksburg Bash earlier this summer. Additionally, Saunders told us that him and Jenkins are "good friends from way back" with Saunders also referencing that friendship when congratulating Jenkins on his commitment to the Hokies yesterday.

Looking ahead, Saunders told us that he is working on setting up an official visit to Virginia Tech but before then, he plans on visiting the Hokies for their home opener against Old Dominion. Additionally, Saunders plans to visit Connecticut as well but he added that all of the above are his visit plans "for right now."

Saunders told us that he doesn't have a specific timeline or date to make a decision, but he does know what he's looking for in the school he'll choose to play his college football at.

"I'm looking for a school that will make me the best player I can be on and off the field, give me an opportunity to compete against the best, and give me a chance to play on college's biggest stage," Saunders said.

Right now, Virginia Tech appears to have all the momentum in Tyree Saunders' recruitment and has emerged as the clear favorite. However, the Hokies still have work to do as they look to add one of their top remaining targets to their 2020 recruiting class.
