The Hokies are joined by Iowa and Rutgers in Ferrari's final 3 with Iowa State and Wisconsin dropping out from his previous top 5.
Ferrari has taken official visits to all three schools including Virginia Tech back in April before taking trips to Iowa City and Piscataway after that. From all that we heard, his visit to Blacksburg went quite well with the Hokies clearly making a strong impression.
The FloWrestling also references that visit and his time with Tech star freshman Caleb Henson as being particularly impactful for him in addition to his time with the coaches. FloWrestling also mentions that Ferrari loves the young core that he could be a part of including Henson, Tom Crook, incoming #1 2023 HWT Jimmy Mullen, and more.
In talking to sources, Ferrari is seen as the ideal heir to Mekhi Lewis at 174 as someone who could maintain that national championship level caliber wrestler at that class that Lewis has brought to the table throughout his career at 165 and 174. Bringing in the #1 recruit to replace Tech's first individual wrestling national champion would also be quite the impressive addition for a VT Wrestling program that has recruited at a high level under Tony Robie anyway.
Both Iowa and Rutgers will be difficult challengers to the Hokies in their pursuit of Ferrari though having the chance to immediately start in Blacksburg should definitely help. The Hokies have also proven that they can some big time recruits during the Robie era with Mullen being the most recent elite recruit that the Hokies landed.
Angelo Ferrari's recruitment is starting to wind down with the Hokies right in the hunt to land the #1 overall wrestler in the 2024 class.
