The cancellation comes as the UVA football program and larger community continues to mourn the tragic loss of Lavel Davis Jr, D'Sean Perry, and Devin Chandler. Both students who were injured in the shooting including Mack Hollins, who was seriously injured, have been released from the hospital.
This will be the first time this game hasn't been played since 1969 though the circumstances are clearly understandable given the current state of mourning for the UVA football program. Our prayers continue to be with the families and friends of the 3 young men tragically killed in the shooting in Charlottesville.
A Virginia Tech spokesman also confirmed to The Tech Lunch Pail that Virginia Tech will not seek a replacement game, ending their 2022 season at 3-8. This was first reported by The Athletic's Andy Bitter on social media.
