Virginia Tech is likely done on the high school recruiting front for the 2023 class after signing three-star PG Brandon Rechsteiner and three-star SG Jaydon Young. With that in mind, Tech's recruiting focus has largely shifted to the 2024 class with one of their top frontcourt targets set to visit this weekend.
Three-star PF Garrett Sundra out of Fairfax, VA told us that he is visiting Virginia Tech this Saturday as the Hokies take on Syracuse in a primetime tipoff on the ACC Network.
The Hokies are among a trio of schools recruiting Sundra the hardest currently along with Butler and Maryland. He's built up a very good offer list that includes the following schools.
- ACC: Virginia Tech, Miami
- Big East: Butler, Seton Hall
- Big 10: Iowa, Maryland, Penn State
- Atlantic 10: Fordham, George Mason, George Washington, Rhode Island
- CAA: Towson
- Conference USA: Rice
- MAAC: Fairfield, Mount Saint Mary's
Leading the charge currently in the Hokies' pursuit of Sundra is associate head coach Mike Jones. That shouldn't come as a surprise given Jones' long tenure at DeMatha Cathloic and that Sundra plays at another DMV private powerhouse, Paul VI Catholic.
He had this to say about his relationship with Jones.
"I would say it is pretty good. He is from the DMV so we talk about the WCAC a lot as well as DeMatha and (Paul VI). He gives me a call every once in a while, and we catch up a lot on text," Sundra said.
Getting Sundra on campus for a game weekend visit is definitely another big step in the right direction for their of hopes of landing him. While Sundra doesn't have any schools currently standing out for him, Tech has a great chance to make a move this weekend.
Keep an eye on Garrett Sundra as he visits Blacksburg with his recruitment heating up.
