The focus may be on official visits for the 2025 class, but the Virginia Tech Hokies are also hosting some big time talents in future classes. That includes 2026 four-star ATH Shavar Young Jr out of Knoxville, TN who had this to say about his visit this past weekend.

“It was great! Most definitely exceeded my expectations!” Young said.

He added this on why it was a great visit for him.

“Just being able to see the campus in person and seeing what the coaches had to say about the program,” Young said.

During his visit, Young got to see some summer workouts plus tour the facilities and spend some time with his area recruiter Shawn Quinn and CBs coach Derek Jones. He had this to say about how his time and conversations with Shawn Quinn went.

“It was great! He talked about the program,” Young said.

He had this to say about how his time and conversations with Derek Jones went.

“It was great. He went over his expectations. His expectations align with my expectations. Basically be a competitor!” Young said.

Young has built up a strong offer list that includes Virginia Tech, Michigan, Georgia, Tennessee, Oregon, Penn State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Florida, West Virginia, South Carolina, Missouri, Louisville, Michigan State, Kentucky, Colorado, Arkansas, and more.

The Hokies are recruiting Young as an athlete who could play either wide receiver or defensive back for them. Young did note that he has a preference for defensive back which is where many recruiting services are also evaluating him at rather than athlete.

So with that said, how did this visit impact his recruitment and his view of Virginia Tech?

“I was able to get an evaluation of the facilities and program. I definitely left feeling good about VT and plan to continue the relationship with the staff,” Young said.

He added this on where the Hokies stand in his recruitment and why that’s the case.

“VT is in the top. I just need to continue getting to know the coaches more,” Young said. “I like the family feel and Coach Jones’ philosophy.”

He also added that Georgia, Oregon, Tennessee, Clemson, Kentucky, and Arkansas are also standing out in his recruitment.

The Virginia Tech Hokies impressed four-star ATH Shavar Young Jr and have put themselves in strong contention in his recruitment.
