However, Hodges returned to Virginia Tech and shifted outside to wide receiver even though NFL scouts still saw him as a tight end and played well with the best statistical season of his collegiate career having 48 catches for 691 receiving yards and 7 touchdowns including an average of 14.4 yards per reception.
Now, Hodges has made the decision that many expected.

Neil Stratton of InsideTheLeague.com has reported that Bucky Hodges has chosen an agency and will declare for the 2017 NFL Draft. Hodges has the potential to go in the top 20 to 25 of the 2017 NFL Draft with many seeing him as one of the top 3 or 4 tight ends eligible for this spring's draft.
7pm Update: Andy Bitter confirmed with Bucky Hodges's father that the redshirt junior athlete will declare for the NFL Draft, ending his very good Virginia Tech career as a three-year starter in Blacksburg with 133 receptions, 1,747 receiving yards, 20 receiving touchdowns, and an average of 13.1 yards per reception.
