In a sport increasingly defined by constant change—roster turnover, NIL battles, and evolving recruiting strategies—Virginia Tech men’s basketball head coach Mike Young is finding strength in both familiarity and fresh perspective. That duality comes in the form of two staff additions: the return of assistant coach Chester Frazier and the hiring of general manager Nelson Hernandez.
Just several weeks in, they have both made their presence felt in Blacksburg, bringing energy, structure, and a renewed sense of purpose to a program poised for growth after a 13-19 2024-2025 season.
If there was any doubt about what Chester Frazier brings to the table, Mike Young put it to rest with a smile recently.
“There certainly hasn’t been any dull moments,” Young said, describing the East Baltimore native’s high-energy personality. “His energy, he’s the best.”
