Virginia Tech wrestling is losing a starter, as the team announced today that 133-pounder Dillon Campbell would miss the remainder of the season due to an unspecified injury.

The redshirt freshman from Legacy Christian High School in Springboro, Ohio emerged as a steady presence in the lower weights for the Hokies last season. He boasts a 23-8 overall record in his college career, and is currently ranked No. 11 and No. 16 by Intermat and FloWrestling, respectively. In the 2025-26 campaign, he finished with a 18-6 record and looked as if he would be in the running for an All-American bid this postseason.

Wrestling in his place for the rest of the season likely will be Aaron Seidel, who has gotten off to a blistering start to his college career; in his freshman campaign, he's 11-0 with nine technical falls and two pins. Here's an excerpt from our previous story for TLP Insiders examining the talent level of the Hokies' freshman class discussing Seidel's remarkable performance thus far:

"In his debut at the Midlands Championships, he won all five of his matches by technical fall or fall, including over Big 10 Champion Dylan Shawver and No. 32 Marcel Lopez, and pinning two-time U-23 World Champion Reineri Ortega in the finals. His performance earned him the title of Outstanding Wrestler at the Midlands Championships, and he was later named ACC Wrestler of the Week. He also recently won the 2026 Franklin & Marshall Open, racking up six technical falls and outscoring his opponents by a combined score of 105-10."

As evidenced by his track record this season, Seidel is a more than capable replacement for the injured Campbell, and could be a legitimate All-American contender this year. His likely promotion to the starting lineup does somewhat affect head coach Tony Robie's plans roster management strategy, however. In an article published by FloWrestling earlier this week, Robie announced his intention to sideline every freshman on the roster with the exception of Collin Gaj, which would have included Seidel.

Seidel could redshirt next season, but with Bo Bassett joining the roster and Caleb Henson returning for his final season, Robie may have hoped to keep Seidel in the lineup to round out the lighter weights.
