Four-Star SF Tyrell Ward Includes Virginia Tech in Final 3 Ahead of April 30th Decision

After taking an official visit to Virginia Tech this past week, four-star SF Tyrell Ward is ready to make his decision next Saturday, April 30th, with the Hokies among the final 3 in his recruitment along with LSU and Georgetown.

Virginia Tech and LSU are both not surprises as the Hokies have been heavily involved for a while and hosted him this past week while LSU hosted Ward the previous weekend on an official visit.

Georgetown is the surprise team on this list, but the Hoyas are a serious threat with former Xavier director of recruiting Jordan Brooks joining the Patrick Ewing staff as an assistant. It is well-known that Brooks played a large role in helping Xavier beat out the Hokies and others to land Ward initially and clearly has made the local Hoyas a player.

Additionally, there is speculation on Twitter that Ward was spotted on Georgetown's campus today (Saturday, April 23rd) prior to him coming out and saying that he would be committing next Saturday so that is worth monitoring. Georgetown also has the local appeal that could prove valuable especially since Ward has reportedly said in the past that the Hoyas are his "dream" school.

The Hokies do have a lot going for them having just hosted Ward on an official visit this weekend. There are also a lot of ties between Ward, his current school DeMatha, and Virginia Tech with former DeMatha head coach Mike Jones as VT's associate head coach and four-star PG/SG Rodney Rice being a Virginia Tech signee.

Those deep ties to Ward could also prove valuable along with the fact that the Hokies have back-to-back NCAA Tournaments under their belt. Meanwhile, Patrick Ewing enters this season on the hot seat with only one winning season and one NCAA Tournament appearance in five years at the helm.

LSU feels like the longshot at this point though the Tigers definitely have playing time to offer with a massive roster turnover happening along with stability like Tech given the new hire of Murray State head coach Matt McMahon this offseason. They've put in the work to give themselves a chance at Ward but this feels like a Virginia Tech-Georgetown battle at this point.

The Tyrell Ward recruitment part 2 is nearing its final conclusion with the Hokies, Hoyas, and Tigers making their final push to land one of the top available recruits in the country.
