Virginia Tech’s strong first full recruiting cycle under James Franklin continued Tuesday evening as four-star TE Jordan Karhoff out of Columbus, OH committed to the Hokies.
Karhoff chose the Hokies over Miami (where he was planning to take an official visit to next weekend per Rivals), Ohio State, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Penn State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Washington, Wisconsin, Louisville, Illinois, Auburn, Iowa, Arizona State, Arkansas, West Virginia, Kentucky, Duke, Colorado, West Virginia, Michigan State, and many more.
The 6’4’’, 215-pound Karhoff is the second TE commit of the cycle along with three-star ATH Braxton Salster who projects at tight end. He is also the first commit from the state of Ohio in this class.
Karhoff is ranked as the 159th best overall recruit in the 2027 class by Rivals and 200th best overall recruit by ESPN. He is also ranked as the seventh best TE by Rivals, eight best TE by ESPN, and 12th best TE by 247 Sports. Virginia Tech's class now ranks 13th overall by 247 Sports and 18th overall by Rivals in what is trending towards being one of the best recruiting classes in VT history.
This is a massive recruiting victory for the Hokies especially to land a player in Ohio State's offer who at least had an Ohio State offer and had serious Power 4 suitors across the country including Miami and Texas A&M.
It's the latest example of Ty Howle being among the best tight end recruiters in the country, with his reputation for developing NFL-caliber tight ends certainly translating to his ability to attract elite tight end recruits at a new school. Karhoff is a fascinating prospect who certainly could come in and push some of the more veteran tight ends in that room upon his arrival, even with the numerous high-end recruiting pedigrees of VT's rebuilt TE group.
VT still may not be done at tight end this cycle with four-star TE Sam Faniel out of Richmond planning to take an official visit to Virginia Tech this weekend. The fact that Salster is an athlete who could potentially play other positions and the fact that VT is likely to use lots of tight ends in their offense could mean that the Hokies are more open to taking a larger tight end class this year.
It may also help that both Benji Gosnell and Harrison Saint Germain are out of eligibility after this season while Luke Reynolds is already considered one of the top TE prospects for the 2027 NFL Draft.
