Hokies Basketball: Four-Star PG Wabissa Bede Commits to Virginia Tech

The Virginia Tech Hokies made a big splash not too long ago when they gained a commitment from four-star guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker who has the potential to end up being a five-star by this spring. However, the Hokies have been busy since then adding 1 2018 and 3 2019 commits before adding their second 2017 commit today. Four-star point guard Wabissa Bede from Cushing Academy in Lowell, Massachusetts committed to the Virginia Tech Hokies over fellow finalists Butler, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and La Salle. Butler seemed to be the strongest challenger to the Hokies for Bede but VT seemed to seal the deal with Bede's visit to Blacksburg this past weekend. Beds is ranked as the 87th best recruit in the nation by ESPN and 72nd best by the 247 Sports Composite. Bede is also ranked as the 17th best point guard by ESPN and 16th best point guard by the 247 Sports Composite. Bede had a breakthrough summer and quickly became the top target for many strong programs across the country. However, it quickly became apparent that this would be a two-horse race between Virginia Tech and Butler despite the fact that Bede still had a top five list of schools. For Buzz Williams and his staff, Bede is the latest strong recruiting pickup in a 2017 class that seems poised to be one of the top 15 to 20 classes in America. Williams has taken the Hokies' basketball recruiting to a level that hasn't been seen in Blacksburg and not only has the program in great shape now but also built to stay strong in the coming years. Bede also tweeted out the impact that 2017 VT commit Nickeil Alexander-Walker had on pushing to get him to sign. Alexander-Walker already seems to be a big asset on the recruiting trail for the Hokies and is likely someone that could help the Hokies more with other top targets including four-star guard Darryl Morsell. Bede has the skill set to immediately jump into the rotation for the Hokies and will help prevent any drop-off at the point guard spot after the graduations of Seth Allen and Devin Wilson. Bede is known as a very good ball distributor and a quality scorer that brings strong work ethic and toughness. Bede definitely seems like the type of player that will fit well with Buzz Williams. The Hokies have gained another big commitment from talented four-star point guard Wabissa Bede to form what is a strong duo with potential five-star Nickeil Alexander-Walker.
