The Virginia Tech Hokies got another big win this past Thursday on the road as they beat the Pittsburgh Panthers for the first time at Heinz Field and first time in Pittsburgh 1999. With the win, the Hokies maintained their control of the ACC Coastal while also being poised to rise in the rankings. Today, the AP top 25 and Coaches Poll were both released and the Hokies rose in both. https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/792810087442030592 https://twitter.com/techlunchpaild/status/792809732008312832 Virginia Tech jumped from 25th to 23rd in the AP top 25 while also jumping from 25th to 21st in the Coaches Poll ahead of the first College Football Playoff committee rankings that will be released Tuesday and are expected to include the Hokies. Overall, the ACC has five teams once again in the top 25 with Clemson staying at 3 and Louisville at 5 followed by North Carolina jumping to 18th, Florida State falling to 19th after losing to Clemson, and the Hokies jumping to 23rd while no other ACC schools received votes. Going forward, the Hokies are going to be fairly big favorites against every single opponent remaining on the schedule along with being a target given their status with a spot in the top 25. It will be interesting to see how the College Football Playoff committee ranks the Hokies on Tuesday for the first time this season in what should be the Hokies' first appearance in the committee's rankings in the three-year history of the College Football Playoff.
