Through two games, offensive coordinator Ty Howle's position group has been as advertised.
Between the four tight ends who have gotten the bulk of the snaps so far–Luke Reynolds, Benji Gosnell, Harrison Saint Germain, Ja'Ricous Hairston–the group has caught 20 passes for 248 yards (12.4 avg.) and three touchdowns.
Given the level of competition Virginia Tech has faced so far, it's probably a safe bet that Howle hasn't shown all the tricks he has up his sleeve. Last week, we saw a wildcat package for Reynolds that Old Dominion sniffed out, as well as a sneaky pop pass to Ja'Ricous Hairston that Grunkemeyer hit for a big gain. Don't be surprised to see the tight ends play a role in some variety of trick play, especially early in the game, as Howle hopes to keep the Terrapins off balance.
