[Credit: Harley Taylor][/caption]When Justin Fuente arrived, he made it a priority to bring in a talented QB that could start immediately and he did that with Jerod Evans. Evans didn't earn the starting job till a couple weeks before the season, but became a catalyst that launched the Hokies to their first ACC Coastal title and 10-win season since 2011.
Rumors emerged after the Hokies' Belk Bowl that he was considering leaving for the NFL to the surprise of many. Now, he has made his decision.

Jerod Evans has declared for the 2017 NFL Draft, foregoing his final year of eligibility.
Evans shined this season completing 63.5% of his passes for 3,546 passing yards, 29 passing touchdowns, and 7 interceptions while also rushing for 846 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns, which both led the Hokies. Evans was also snubbed from receiving any All-ACC recognition despite having one of the best seasons in VT history.
Evans will leave Virginia Tech with a lot of single-season VT records including most passing yards, most passing TDs, most completions, most total TDs, and most rushing yards by a QB.
Evans has plenty of upside due to his great athleticism and big arm but also has a lot of works to do with his mechanics and must improve his ability to progress through his reads. Right now, Evans seems likely to be a late-round draft pick though his draft stock seems largely unknown at this point with no one really expecting him to leave.
