Virginia Tech had a strong Monday on the transfer portal recruiting trail, landing a trio of new commitments so far including one from Louisiana RB Bill Davis just a day after

Davis is now one of five transfer portal commitments for the Hokies along with Penn State QB Ethan Grunkemeyer, Penn State TE Matt Henderson, Michigan State OL Justin Bell, and Penn State DL Daniel Jennings. Tech staved off some tough competition including Auburn and Colorado most notably per source.

He will have two years of eligibility after leading Louisiana in carries each of the past two seasons.

Davis was a productive power running back at 5'9'' and 225 pounds, and ran for 767 yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry this past season. During the 2024 season, he ran for 796 yards and nine touchdowns while averaging 4.9 yards per carry.

His advanced numbers are strong too as over the past two seasons, Davis has averaged just over 3.5 yards per carry after contact each season while forcing 31 missed tackles in 2024 and 29 missed tackles in 2025. He earned a 76.0 PFF grade this season past season including a 79.5 rushing grade on his way to earning All-Sun Belt Third Team honors.

Davis brings some intriguing competition to Tech's RB room and gives them at least three proven FBS running backs with Marcellous Hawkins and Jeff Overton Jr, the type of depth that James Franklin wants at minimum at every depth chart spot. While Hawkins seems very likely to be the starting RB as of now, Davis and Overton should have a fascinating battle for reps behind Hawkins. Given how Penn State has leaned on multiple running backs, there may be room for significant reps for two or even three RBs anyway.
