Virginia Tech's transfer class continued its youth movement Sunday evening as the Hokies landed a commitment from Penn State TE Matt Henderson, a native of Powhatan, VA.

Henderson is the second transfer commitment for the Hokies, joining DL Daniel Jennings, a fellow Penn State transfer. He will have four years of eligibility remaining after playing in only four regular season games plus the bowl game on special teams during his redshirt season.
Henderson provides another strong boost to a Virginia Tech tight end room that hadn't signed a high school scholarship tight end since the 2023 class (Zeke Wimbush who has entered the transfer portal) prior to signing four-star TE Pierce Petersohn this cycle. His familiarity with James Franklin and Ty Howle almost certainly played a factor in his decision to return to his home state with the Hokies.
The 6'5'', 246-pound Henderson was a four-star recruit out of high school and certainly should have a chance at being able to battle his way into Virginia Tech's tight end rotation next season. Then again, that may be challenging if the Hokies are able to retain Benji Gosnell and are able to land fellow Penn State TE transfer Luke Reynolds to lead that room next season.
