Black has more than 15 Power 5 offers on a list that also includes other quality programs like Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, West Virginia, and others with others from schools in all 5 power conferences.
According to
247 Sports, Black has already taken an official visit to Arizona and has one scheduled for this fall to Nebraska. Given those official visits, Black appears to be more than content to look at schools farther away from home, something that makes Black's recruitment even more wide open on paper relative to his offer list that spans from Boston to Tucson.
Given the suddenness of this visit after receiving an offer, it's not only clear that the Hokies have been showing interest in Black for a while, but that there has been a significant amount of mutual interest leading up to this offer. Given the quick turnaround, it's fair to assume that the Hokies have legitimate traction with Black who has to be a top DT target at this point alongside three-star Simeon Barrow Jr.
The Hokies appear to be looking to add one more defensive tackle to a defensive line class that includes a true DE in Stephen Sings and a likely DT in Derrell Bailey Jr (though recruiting sites have Bailey as a DE given the continued need to restock and balance the classes at DT.
Keep an eye on Marquis Black as the Hokies are emerging as a serious contender in his recruitment within days of offering him.
