Following Brent Pry's dismissal as Virginia Tech's head football coach, rumors are already swirling about who the Hokies will target as their next head man. Among those interested in the position is former Virginia Tech superstar QB Michael Vick as reported by CBS Sports' Roger Gonzalez and confirmed by others including On3's Pete Nakos and CBS Sports' Richard Johnson.

Michael Vick recently took the head coaching job at Norfolk State, where he is three games into his tenure with a 1-2 record, with the only win coming against DII Virginia State, 34-31.

Vick had this comment when asked about the rumors during his recent press conference.

"As of right now, I'm just super dialed in on Sacred Heart. I just finished watching film on them, and I got to win for NSU. The most important thing is finding ways to help my guys play at a high level regardless of what conference you're playing, regardless of what level of talent you're playing. I say that referencing Rutgers last week and referencing us playing three different opponents from three different conferences and just being ready to play. With all these things circling, I got to juggle this on a day-to-day basis. That's what's most important, I can't see that far in the future, even though I look into the future and I try to get my players to look in the future. Right now, just got to have a short term memory," Vick said.

Pete Nakos of On3 reports that some VT boosters pushed Vick to get coaching experience. Nakos also added that "it would not surprised anybody in the industry if Vick is a serious name at VT in future coaching searches."

While Vick would without a doubt be a fan favorite and a very fun hire, the Hokies are not in any position to allow a coach to learn on the job again, especially one as green as Michael Vick, who has no head coaching experience prior to the 2025 season.

This coaching search will be long and drawn out, and we will likely not know who the next head coach will be until November at the earliest.

While Vick could be seen as a candidate, he is very far down the list of the committee that has/will be appointed to hire the next head football coach.

We will have more as this story develops.
