Virginia Tech mike linebacker Rayshard Ashby has been named ACC Linebacker of the Week for his performance against Boston College.
Ashby recorded 13 tackles in the game, 7 of which were solo, and 3.5 were tackles for loss. He also recorded the lone sack of the game for the Hokies. His performance also earned our weekly TLP Defensive Hokie of the Game honor.
Ashby had 3 more tackles than anyone else for Virginia Tech as starting safeties Divine Deablo and Reggie Floyd had 10 and 9 tackles respectively.
Ashby has emerged as a leader for the defense after his solid season in 2018. He played a huge role in helping the Hokies’ linebacker corps return to prominence despite the defense struggling for most of the season.
Even though Virginia Tech gave surrendered 35 points in week one, the run defense overall was a bright spot. Ashby played a huge roll in that, and he will look to build on his strong performance as the Hokies host Old Dominion in their home opener this Saturday at noon.
