After hosting talented in-state DE Elijah Hughes on their final Junior Day in January, the Virginia Tech Hokies to extend the standout Northern Virginia recruit an offer this week.
After a great conversation with @jcprice59 and the @HokiesFB staff, I am beyond blessed and honored to announce that I have received my first power 5 offer from Virginia Tech University! @CoachPryVT @CoachJoeRudolph @Coach_Marve @CoachdjCheetah @CoachKoRush_VT @BrianDohn247 pic.twitter.com/1BE1hCzYom

Hughes had this to say about his reaction to receiving a Virginia Tech offer and VT's message for him during a FaceTime with DL coach J.C. Price and some of the other Hokies' coaches.
"I was very excited! I am grateful and honored!" Hughes said. "They were excited about offering me it seemed, it was a little bit of a blur however."
It shouldn't come as a surprise that it was a little bit of a blur given the excitement for Hughes to receive his first Power 5 offer via in-state Virginia Tech. This comes after he had a "good time" on his visit to Blacksburg last month and added this on why he had a good time while at Tech.
"I enjoyed checking out all of the nice facilities and soaking in all of the knowledge coach Price had to offer in the position meeting. The photo shoot was nice as well," Hughes said.
Since then, it's clear that J.C. Price and Tech's staff became more impressed with Elijah Hughes and his talent which shouldn't come as a surprise after he had video game type production last season with 113 tackles, 40 tackles for loss, and 14.5 sacks in only 10 games this past season.
Tech may be the only Power 5 offer for now but more may be on the way as Hughes previously told us that he has received interest from Penn State, Wake Forest, Boston College, Virginia, and Duke among those at the P5 level.
Keep an eye on Elijah Hughes as the Hokies have made it clear that he is a target to watch for the 2023 class on the defensive line.
