Virginia Tech had a host of talented recruits on campus on the last weekend of January including 2023 QB Amari Odom out of Panther Creek HS in Cary, NC. His visit went well as he shared with us.
"It went well. Got a chance to meet the new staff and introduce myself to the people who I hope recruit me," Odom said.
Odom gave us the rundown on his visit which included spending time with QBs coach Brad Glenn.
"I got to meet with the new QB coach, Coach Glenn and he talked about how he recruits and what he looks for in a player and what he does with his quarterbacks. I also toured the campus and took pics in uniforms.
Odom's conversations with Brad Glenn went quite well as he shared with us.
"I enjoyed it. We spent about 25 minutes with us and 4 other QBs and he just talked about his teachings. The thing the new staff is big on is building a family and Coach Glenn went into depth with that talking about how he wants his quarterbacks to be on that level with him," Odom said.
Like some of the other recruits Tech hosted that weekend, the emphasis on family stuck out the most for Odom beyond just his time with Glenn.
"The emphasis all the coaches and staff put on being a family. This is important to me because I’m spending the next few years of my life in college and with the people I’m going to be around all the time, that means something," Odom said.
Amari Odom currently has a trio of offers from ECU, UNLV, and UMass; but a breakthrough could be coming soon. Odom said that beyond Tech, the schools that are currently showing interest who haven't offered him yet are "Michigan, Wake Forest, Michigan State, UConn, Marshall, Campbell, JMU, Coastal Carolina, California, Arizona State, and etc."
That shouldn't come as a surprise after Odom had a strong junior season as he shared with us.
"I did very well. I was top 3 in passing yards and total yards. I had 40 passing TDs and 5 rushing and our team went to the Elite 8 in the 4A state playoffs," Odom said.
Odom didn't get an offer during his visit, but the groundwork for one down the road has been laid as Odom shared when asked how close he feels VT is to offering him.
"About 50/50, Coach Glenn talked about having a good, solid relationship before offering QBs and right now, I'm trying to continue to build that with him," Odom said.
Keep an eye on Amari Odom after Virginia Tech made a strong impression on his visit and the groundwork was laid for an offer from the Hokies down the road.
