Hankins arrived in Knoxville as one of the more decorated prospects in the 2025 recruiting class. Perfect Game rated him the No. 156 overall prospect in the nation and the No. 2 first baseman in his class, while also tabbing him the No. 4 overall player and top first baseman out of Virginia.
He was a Preseason All-American and All-Atlantic Region First Team selection, and participated in both the 2023 Perfect Game Junior National Showcase and the 2024 Perfect Game National Showcase.
At The Miller School in Albemarle, VA, Hankins was a four-year starter who helped lead the Mavericks to three VISAA state title game appearances, capping his prep career with a championship in 2025. He earned Virginia First Team All-State honors four times, was named Conference Player of the Year three times and took home both the 2025 MaxPreps Virginia Player of the Year award and a spot on the MaxPreps All-America Team. He also participated in the 2024 MLB All-Star High School Home Run Derby.
Hankins saw limited action in his lone season at Tennessee, appearing in six games and totaling six at-bats where he struck out three times, while walking once and scoring a run.
He becomes Virginia Tech's first transfer portal commitment of the cycle, giving the Hokies a high-ceiling prospect to build around as the Hokies look to reshape their roster this offseason.
