According to Andy Bitter of The Athletic and other reports, Virginia Tech has had three players suffer injuries that will cause them to miss the 2021 football season.
A quick #Hokies injury update:

LB Will Johnson (shoulder), DT Desmond Mamudi (knee) and walk-on WR William Kakavitsas (knee) are out for the year. Johnson and Mamudi, two 2021 signees, had surgery recently.
The most impactful injury from the bunch is likely freshman DT Desmond Mamudi who was projected to be a third string DT alongside Maxx Philpott. With Mamudi out, the Hokies are truly down to five guys at DT with Philpott, a former walk-on, being a solid fifth guy who played some last year.
Will Johnson was expected to likely redshirt anyway but for him and Mamudi, who likely would have also redshirted playing in the 4 game maximum ideally, having an injury recovery during their first season is less than ideal.
William Kakavitsas might not be well-known but he had worked some at punt returner with the potential to provide depth there while the walk-on also would have likely had some sort of role on special teams.
These three losses do hurt the Hokies' depth for 2021 slightly, but have a minimal effect on Tech's outlook for 2021.
