Virginia Tech's first official visit weekend of the summer has proven quite fruitful with three-star CB Austin Barrett out of Paterson, NJ committing to the Hokies Tuesday morning.
Barrett is the third of four new commits among last weekend's visitors along with three-star TE Sam Faniel out of Richmond and three-star OT Luke Braham out of West Virginia who committed Saturday, and three-star OT Dylan Latell out of Ohio who committed Tuesday evening. He is the second cornerback commit for the Hokies this cycle along with four-star Chase Johnson from Georgia.
He is the first commit from New Jersey in this class and is ranked among the top 15 recruits in New Jersey in 2027 by all three major recruiting services.
Barrett chose the Hokies over other offers from Auburn, West Virginia, Wisconsin, NC State, Duke, BYU, Michigan State, Minnesota, Virginia, Syracuse, Boston College, and more.
Barrett is another very solid addition for the Hokies and has VT in a spot now where they seem likely to take only one more cornerback in this class, maybe two depending on the versatility. Three-star CB Emerson Lewis and Mississippi State CB commit Brandon Allen Jr, both of whom are from Georgia, were on campus this weekend and are names to watch. VT also made the top three for four-star Kelvin Millington out of Georgia who will be visiting on June 19-21.
