Virginia Tech’s strong recruiting run continued Monday as three-star LB Mathieu Lamah became the second new commit for the Hokies on Monday alone and seventh new commit since James Franklin’s arrival.
Lamah chose the Hokies over fellow finalists Rutgers and West Virginia. He visited all three of those schools in recent weeks, taking a trip to VT two weekends ago and one to WVU this past weekend.
He had this to say about why he chose the Hokies.
“A familiar place that I always felt was home and with the hire of coach (James) Franklin, a coach I trusted before, really helped on my decision. I see the future, I see the vision, and I want to be part of this rebuild,” Lamah said.
He is now one of seven new commits since James Franklin’s arrival along with four-star QB Troy Huhn, four-star RB Messiah Mickens, four-star TE Pierce Petersohn, and three-star OL Roseby Lubintus, Marlen Bright, and Maddox Cochrane. All but Cochrane were committed to Penn State at one point during this recruiting cycle.
Lamah had been a priority for the Hokies’ previous staff, with Franklin being able to use that familiarity to help bring him to Blacksburg. This wasn’t straightforward for Franklin to land the Northern Virginia standout as Rutgers and West Virginia made serious pushes for him, but the Hokies were able to hold on in the end despite not getting the final visit.
With Lamah on board, the Hokies likely will focus heavily on landing four-star LB Terry Wiggins, a Penn State commit who also falls into the potential flip category for Franklin.
