Three-star OL Michael Gibbs out of Wilmington, NC was among the recruits at Virginia Tech just over a week ago (June 7-9) for an official visit. His visit to Blacksburg went quite well as he shared with us.

“It was amazing,” Gibbs said.

He had this to say on what made it an amazing visit for him.

“I was able to get a behind the scenes look of the school and what the players do on a day to day basis. I really got the family aspect vibe this weekend!” Gibbs said.

He added this on what he enjoyed the most during his official visit.

“My favorite part was getting to see a kind of behind the scenes view of Hokie football and really being able to see how invested everyone is in the program. Coach Pry does a phenomenal job investing in the family aspect of Hokie culture!!”

Gibbs also shared the following about what he got to do on his official visit.

“I got to see the whole campus once again, spent a lot of time with the players, spoke with (head) coach (Brent) Pry, and even got to go tubing and fishing!” Gibbs said.

One of the most notable parts of his visit was the time he spent with Brent Pry. He had this to say about his time and conversations with Pry.

“It’s always great getting to sit down with him. It just feels so natural talking with him in conversation as he’s so approachable along with the rest of the staff. His passion for his vision of the team and player development really stands out. Coach Pry makes people want to work harder for him. My parents really feel like Coach Pry and his entire staff are people they could leave me with to not only make me a better football player, but also a better individual,” Gibbs said.

Gibbs also spent lots of time with offensive analyst Brent Davis during his visit, and had this to say about his time and conversations with Davis.

“You know, I really like Coach Davis. He seems like he runs a tight ship but as hard as he coaches is as hard as he cares. From our conversations, it doesn’t feel like he would ask anything of me that he didn’t truly believe I could accomplish. Being an extension of Coach Pry, I think he is the type of coach too that people want to work harder for,” Gibbs said. “Also, my parents think he is a well-rounded, super fun guy. He was patient with all their questions and a wealth of knowledge for VT things on and off the field.”

Gibbs’ player host for this visit was starting Virginia Tech guard Braelin Moore. He had this to say about his time and conversations with Moore.

“It couldn’t have been a more perfect fit. He is close with his family and there are a ton of them. I am close with my family too and especially my big brother (like he is), but I also come from a huge group of very close cousins. He is laid back but serious about the game, and he is just a cool, down-to-earth guy,” Gibbs said.

So how did this visit impact his recruitment and where the Hokies stand in it.

“I loved VT and this visit. They have great weather and beautiful countryside, a crazy football atmosphere, and academics that I am highly motivated to study. But each visit I have planned has been carefully thought about and prayed over as places I could see myself in their uniform. It’s gonna come down to relationships. Football is a team sport and the guys I eventually get to suit up beside are gonna be key to where I choose. My mom always talks about deep roots, I think seeing and feeling that kind of opportunity for growth and a brotherhood will be what clicks above all else for me and my family. VT really set the bar high on all of the above!” Gibbs said.

Virginia Tech set a high bar for Michael Gibbs’ official visits as the Hokies look to hold off NC State and Duke to land his commitment.
