Three-Star WR Tray Curry Commits to Virginia Tech

Virginia Tech continues to have a strong July on the recruiting trail as the Hokies landed their third commitment of the month from three-star WR Tray Curry.

Curry is the 14th commit for the Hokies this cycle and the second wide receiver commit joining Richmond WR Jaylen Jones. He is also the first commit from Tennessee for the Hokies this cycle. He joins talented California CB D.J. Harvey and 757 LB Isi Etute as the third commit this month for Tech.

This is not only an impressive addition because of the host of schools that the Hokies beat to land Curry, but also because of the fact that Tech seemed to be not very involved in his recruitment. Curry told us late last week that Auburn and Kentucky were "probably" recruiting him the hardest and that the amount of interest Virginia Tech was showing him was "not very much."

WRs coach Jafar Williams deserves a ton of credit here as it seems pretty clear that the Hokies turned on the heat heavily over the past few days when they sensed an opportunity with Williams already having a "pretty good" relationship with Curry.

Safe to say, this was one of the more surprising commits Tech has landed, but also impressive to come out of the blue and beat out SEC schools for a recruit in SEC country.

Curry gives the Hokies the bigger outside receiver they've been looking for since the decommitment of Latrell Neville. Going forward, it'll be interesting to see if Tech focuses more on trying to land a slot guy with 3* WR Da'Wain Lofton and 3* WR Skyler Bell likely among the top targets.

We will have more as this story develops.
