For the first time, an Atlantic Coast Conference game will be played on the west when Virginia Tech takes on Stanford in Palo Alto. It's a historic moment no one could have imagined just a few years ago nor was wanted by most people as college football's geographic fabric gets ripped apart.
Regardless, the moment has arrived with the Hokies needing a victory to keep their faint ACC Championship hopes alive after a heartbreaking 38-34 loss to top 10 Miami on a hail mary touchdown for VT that was controversially overturned. Meanwhile, Stanford is looking to bounce back from a blowout loss at top 20 Clemson in their first home ACC game.
So with that in mind, here are my things to watch for the Hokies against the Cardinal.
How Will Virginia Tech Respond After Last Week's Controversy?
After briefly sharing his further frustration with the controversial hail mary overturn at Miami on Tuesday, Brent Pry was insistent that Virginia Tech was "aggressively" turning the page on last week and shifting their focus to Stanford. This didn't just include players and coaches, but also apparently included conversations with families of players (and I assume the families of coaches and other staffers as well).
