Virginia Tech has already made one addition to their wide receiver corps via the transfer portal with Penn State's Jeff Exinor Jr. However, the Hokies seem poised to bring in some more reinforcements around a receiving corps that will be lead by rising senior Ayden Greene after he led the Hokies' pass catchers this past season.
Slot receiver in particular seems like a spot where the Hokies are looking to bring in more help, with Takye Heath being the only notable contributor at that spot returning and plenty of offers and interest going towards players who have primarily played in the slot.
While this list isn't inclusive of all the wide receiver targets for the Hokies, this does provide a good rundown of the names I am the monitoring at the moment, what I've heard about some of these targets, and how they could fit with the Hokies and their roster construction plans.
So with that said, let's dive into my look at several transfer wide receiver targets to monitor.
South Carolina WR Brian Rowe
Let's start with South Carolina freshman WR transfer Brian Rowe, who I reported last night recently took a visit to Blacksburg per his agent. His agent told me that Rowe "loved his visit" to Blacksburg.
Rowe feels like a top of the board type slot target after the former 2025 four-star recruit from Charlotte made four starts for the Gamecocks this past season and had 19 catches for 141 yards. He's an intriguing young talent who would at minimum be able to break into Tech's WR rotation next season and could definitely beat out Takye Heath for the starting slot job.
Rowe also gained tons of experience in the slot, having taken over 90% of his passing down snaps this past season in the slot. For a team that has been heavier on outside receivers in terms of high school roster construction, Rowe would definitely bring more slot depth as a minimum.
One thing that could slightly help the Hokies is that Rowe is a Charlotte native and there may be some appeal to being fairly close to home. That appeal obviously doesn't mean as much as it used to though.
Keep an eye on Rowe who has the type of talent to be a top of the board WR target for the Hokies.
