Wednesday morning, Sean Pedulla announced he will be entering the transfer portal. Pedulla is now the third Tech player to do so, following Lynn Kidd and John Camden, which broke Tuesday afternoon. The rising senior point guard did add that he would be strongly considering a return to Virginia Tech for his senior season on X.
I will be entering the transfer portal while strongly considering a return to Virginia Tech for my last year.

Pedulla had a terrific 2023-2024 season, leading the team in points and assists at 16.4 points and 4.6 assists per game. Pedulla finished the season as a third team All-ACC member and totaled the season with eight 20+ point games and two of 30 points scored or more. He was instrumental to what the Hokies were able to do offensively.
Since Pedulla mentioned he is considering staying a Hokie for 2024-25 season, this news comes as less of a hard pill to swallow story for Virginia Tech. Pedulla looks like he’s keeping his options open and wants to explore his value on the transfer portal market, rather than keep options closed by fully committing to Tech.
The Edmond, Oklahoma native might consider a return to his hometown state. This would leave the door open for either Oklahoma or Oklahoma State to swoop in and pick up Pedulla as their next point guard for the 2024-2025 season.
Pedulla will also lokely be weighing NIL opportunities as much as basketball. The Hokies have already made him a starter and he’s achieved quite a lot through his three years in Blacksburg. However, he may now be looking to move on and to a new opportunity, in familiar territory that will boost his NIL value and give him some more draft stock as an NBA prospect.
If Pedulla leaves, the Hokies will now have to replace four of five starters from this past season. Hunter Cattoor and Robbie Beran are out of eligibility while Kidd is also in the transfer portal. If Pedulla heads out the door, Tech will have a bare cupboard with MJ Collins, Tyler Nickel, and Jaydon Young as the main pieces of the puzzle prior to Tech adding in new pieces via the portal.
However, if Pedulla stays with Tech, that would be huge for Mike Young and company. Not only do you return a familiar face but Pedulla was their top scorer and passer. The continuity that Pedulla would provide to next year’s Tech team is hard to replace out of the transfer portal. Nevertheless, only time will tell what Pedulla decides to do as essentially a college basketball “free agent” in this new world of the transfer portal.
