Talented Richmond DE Makai Byerson's recruitment is starting to come into greater focus as he begins to primarily focus on a select group of schools.
Byerson said that he has "narrowed" his recruitment down to 6 schools: Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Kentucky, West Virginia, Boston College, and Rutgers. He also has the following official visits scheduled.
- West Virginia: June 2nd-4th
- Rutgers: June 9th-11th
- Kentucky: June 16th-18th
- Virginia Tech: June 23rd-25th
While Byerson has "narrowed" his focus to these six schools, he hasn't ruled out everyone else completely as he is visiting Maryland this weekend.
So why are the Hokies among the six programs that Byerson is considering currently?
"Really just the people at Tech, the atmosphere, the goals people have there, and how it’s just one big family," Byerson said.
Byerson also said that Virginia Tech is among the four schools currently recruiting him the hardest along with Kentucky, West Virginia, and Rutgers.
Leading the charge is DL coach J.C. Price who has made Byerson one of his higher priorities at defensive end this cycle. Byerson had this to say about his relationship with Price.
"He's a cool dude. We are always cracking jokes when I’m up there. But he's also a great coach. The way he breaks down plays is different," Byerson said.
Of course, what is most notable is the fact that Byerson has four official visits set up for June with the Hokies getting the last one especially since Byerson plans to make his decision before the start of his senior season. That makes the value of those official visits as the final big statement for each of his contenders.
He had this to say about what he's looking to see on each of his official visits.
"I really just want to talk to the coaches in depth about what would be the plan if I did choose the great opportunity they have given me," Byerson said.
Virginia Tech is right in the hunt for Richmond DE Makai Byerson with a big opportunity looming in late June with his official visit to Blacksburg.
