James Franklin's staff retention at Virginia Tech are slowly being leaked, with Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reporting that the Hokies are set to retain OL coach Matt Moore.
Virginia Tech is also expected to retain offensive line coach Matt Moore as part of James Franklin’s staff, sources tell @CBSSports.

Before Va Tech, Moore worked at West Virginia from 2019-24 and Troy from 2015-18. Has coached nearly 20 all-conference players the last 10 years. https://t.co/sVNE9tzTAg pic.twitter.com/VkwmBCuYbl
Moore is the second reported staff retention along with WRs coach Fontel Mines, with Brent Pry also making a return months as his defensive coordinator after his dismissal as head coach. He joins an offensive staff that includes Mines, offensive coordinator/TEs coach Ty Howle, QBs coach Danny O'Brien, and assistant TEs coach David Rocco.
Moore had a young offensive line his season that dealt with some injuries too and understandably had their struggles. However, Moore's group did show improvement in run blocking throughout the season while Moore has proven himself to be a very solid recruiter who had a strong offensive line class assembled prior to Brent Pry's dismissal including four-star 757 OT Thomas Wilder, who decommitted after Pry's dismissal and then recommitted to VT after Franklin's hiring.
He also has a tremendous reputation of producing dozens of all-conference offensive linemen at Troy and West Virginia including multiple All-Americans in Colton McKivitz (2019), Zach Frazier (2023), and Wyatt Milum (2024).
With Moore and Mines now both retained, the offensive staff focus now turns to the RBs coach spot with Elijah Brooks being a likely candidate to be retained for that job given what he's done with Virginia Tech's running backs over the past few seasons since arriving from Maryland.
