Virginia Tech Leads For Three-Star OT Jordan McFadden
Virginia Tech has been casting a wide net for offensive linemen in the Class of 2018 but haven't had the most success with only one commit so far, albeit from a top OL target in three-star OG John Harris. While the Hokies do only have one offensive line commit so far, VT is in great shape for one of their top offensive tackle targets.Three-star OT Jordan McFadden recently told us that Virginia Tech leads in his recruitment with McFadden considering making a decision early in July. This news comes days after McFadden released a top 4 that included the Hokies, Duke, Michigan State, and Rutgers. McFadden would be a good offensive line get for the Hokies as not only is he a top target for the Hokies but he's also fairly well-ranked with ESPN ranking him as the 46th best OT, 247 Sports ranking him 96th best, and the 247 Sports Composite ranking him 88th best. He also would be a solid pickup out of South Carolina as ESPN has him as the Palmetto State's ninth-best recruit, Rivals has him 28th, 247 Sports has him 21st, and the 247 Sports Composite has him 18th best. When we asked McFadden why VT was his leader, this is what he had to say.
"It just feels like home. I love being there and I have a good bond with the coaches!"The Hokies have made a great impression on McFadden with the South Carolina OT feeling quite comfortable with the Hokies' staff and Virginia Tech as a whole. McFadden also mentioned how VT is "big time football" when we asked him on why the Hokies made his top 4. When we asked McFadden more about what stands out about the Hokies' coaching staff, this is what he had to say.
"They are constantly talking to me and showing me how much they want me, and I have talked to a player and the coaches treat them just like they are their kids."McFadden recently took visits to Virginia Tech and Duke which went quite differently and show how Virginia Tech has claimed the lead in McFadden's recruitment. McFadden on his VT visit:
"Virginia Tech just made me feel like I was family there. I learned a lot of new things about academics at VT."McFadden on his Duke visit:
"Duke was alright. I had a good time with the OL coach. He is cool and tells me how bad they want me."It's clear from his comments that McFadden's visit to Blacksburg went much better than his visit to Duke, putting VT in the driver's seat in his recruitment. McFadden also told us that his best relationships with coaches are with VT TEs coach and his area recruiter James Shibest, and Rutgers assistant AJ Blazek, another good sign for the Hokies especially with Rutgers not appearing to be much of a threat at this point despite making his top 4. Michigan State and Rutgers definitely have put some effort into recruiting McFadden but it seems clear that McFadden is almost certain to end up at Virginia Tech or Duke. However, what is more clear is that the Hokies are the favorites to get another one of their top offensive line targets in McFadden, especially with VT now publicly being in the lead. Jordan McFadden is getting close to making a decision, and the Hokies are in about as good of a position as you could be as the leaders for him coming off a really good visit with their top challenger Duke having only an "alright" visit.
