Virginia Tech Makes the Top 5 for Four-Star SG Rondel Walker

VT Students Miami 1

Virginia Tech has made a strong impression on plenty of basketball recruits including four-star SG Rondel Walker who included the Hokies in his top 5.

The Hokies made the top 5 for Walker along with Arkansas, Oklahoma State, Kansas State, and Texas with the Hokies being the biggest surprise for the Oklahoma City shooting guard.

This is the latest highly-pursued recruit that the Hokies made a relatively exclusive cut for with VT doing so not just with regional players but also players from all over the country like Walker and big man Bradley Ezewiro from California who included VT in his top 6 before moving to Oak Hill Academy on the East Coast.

The Hokies definitely feel like a longshot for Walker in larger part due to the distance factor especially with three Big 12 schools making the cut including in-state Oklahoma State. Additionally, scholarship numbers make it difficult with the Hokies only having room for one or two more recruits and already having a pair of talented four-star guards committed in Joe Bamisile and Darius Maddox.

However, recruiting can be fickle a lot of the time as things can change quite rapidly. The fact that the Hokies also made the cut for a recruit from Oklahoma City is another sign that the Hokies have at least a good amount of mutual interest though it remains to be seen how serious their interest is going forward given the needs elsewhere in this class.
